FOR PAST GUESTS... HERE IS THE REASON FOR THE CHANGE FROM 2024
After more than 15 years with us, Gerti has decided this will be her last year managing the apartments. Since we won't have her on the ground to handle bookings and payments etc, we have agreed with Sunvil that they will manage  the apartments for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

P.S. In case you don’t know the history of our property, this was the site of our great-grandfather’s home which was destroyed in the earthquake of 1953. It was left to our grandmother Katerini, who built and ran the apartments until 2012 when she was 94. She died aged 100 and was buried at the cemetery beach, Filiatro. We, her family, stay at the house every summer. If we’re there when you’re there, please do say hello.

About Ithaca

In this article, the Telegraph asks, Is Ithaca the most beautiful island in Greece?

Mobirise

Ithaca is one of the seven Ionian islands on the Italian side of Greece. It was made famous as the home of Odysseus by Homer in his great epics the Iliad and the Odyssey. There are ongoing excavations taking place at a nearby village where there are ancient ruins as well as evidence of a Mycenaean era city. Find out more about that HERE.

Kioni is the most beautiful village in Ithaca. The entrance to the bay is marked by three old windmills and from here one sees the picturesque village with its houses dotted on the hillsides that are covered with olive groves and Cyprus trees creating a tapestry of green shades. Kioni has four pebbled beaches with crystal clear waters that make for superb snorkeling.

There are six tavernas on the waterfront, each serving traditional Greek food, fish, mousaka, spanakopita as well as local wine. There are two bars, both right on the water's edge. The local convenience store sells almost everything from fresh vegetables to Scotch whiskey, English breakfast tea and fresh, island-baked bread.

Perhaps the most charming part about staying at the Kioni Apartments will be meeting the locals who give the village its welcoming warmth and interest. Old local fishermen, an eccentric poet, an artistic silversmith, the travelling vegetable man... some examples of the characters who are there year after year, adding spice to a heavenly location. Note the video shows our ex-manager as it was made before our arrangement with Sunvil.
